PBH hosts fourth annual Supermarket Dietitians at Fresh Summit Program
Produce for Better Health Foundation hosted 22 supermarket dietitians from 15 states, representing over 9,200 stores nationwide, for its fourth annual Supermarket Dietitians at Fresh Summit Program, Oct. 22-25 in Atlanta.
The four-day program featured several education sessions, a culinary demonstration, various networking occasions, and a tour of local supermarkets. Additionally, the dietitians were given dedicated time on the Fresh Summit expo floor allowing them to learn more about specific fruits and vegetables and the challenges and opportunities growers, shippers and marketers are facing today.
Twenty-two supermarket dieticians took part in the Produce for Better Health Foundation-hosted Supermarket Dietitians at Fresh Summit Program.
“Each year since its inception, this program has expanded in breadth and depth related to the session topics, presenters, and participants,” said Elizabeth Pivonka, Ph.D., R.D., president and chief executive officer of PBH. “PBH continues to develop relationships with new supermarket dietitians, while strengthening existing relationships, and are uniquely positioned to provide these type of educational programs to supermarkets and to members of the fruit and vegetable industry.”
Dietitians from the following chains participated in the program: Albertson’s/Safeway, Big Y Foods, Fareway Stores, Inc., Giant Eagle, Inc., GIANT Food Stores/MARTIN’s Food Markets, H-E-B, Hy-Vee, Inc., Ingles Markets, King Soopers/City Market, Loblaw Cos., Ltd., Lowes Foods, Mariano’s/Roundy’s Supermarkets Inc., Meijer, Military Community and Family Policy DOD, Northgate Gonzalez Market, ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc., Skogen’s Festival Foods, The Kroger Co. and Weis Markets.
“Many fruit and vegetable marketers are very interested in working with supermarket dietitian’s to expand their knowledge of fruits and vegetables so they may assist shoppers with their fruit and vegetable questions,” said PBH Chairman of the Board Howard Nager of Domex Superfresh Growers. “The annual programs and events PBH offers to dietitians provide a tremendous amount of information to them and a significant value to our industry.”
