Paramount's new almond products to be sold in produce departments
Paramount Farms, a leading vertically integrated supplier of pistachios and almonds based in Los Angeles, is extending its reach in the snacking category with the introduction of "Sunkist Almond Munchies," a new line of six delicious heart-healthy almond snacks.
?The market is primed for a new line of tasty, heart-healthy snacks," said Michael Galef, vice president of marketing for Paramount Farms. "According to Mintel research, the healthy-snacking category increased almost 50 percent from 1998 to 2003. And according to Information Resources Inc., total almond sales in 2003 increased 55 percent. That?s largely due to today?s emphasis on eating right as more and more people seek convenient alternatives to junk food snacks. The nutritional benefits of almonds, along with the high emotional and physical satiety benefits they offer, make them the ideal snack choice."
Available in the produce department, the six varieties are In the Raw " raw almonds; Nudies " skinless, oven roasted, lightly salted almonds; Roastie Toasties " oven roasted and lightly salted almonds; Buttered Up " lightly glazed with butter; Honey Dipped " oven roasted with a touch of golden honey; and Hot and Sassy " a subtly spicy variety flavored with zesty pepper and cayenne.
Available in resealable, six-ounce bags, Almond Munchies are ideal for stashing in the car, gym bag or briefcase for a quick energy boost any time of day. Produce department placement makes them a natural choice for consumers seeking healthier snack options. "Traditionally almonds have only been available in the snack-food aisle and in limited varieties," added Mr. Galef. "By offering Almond Munchies in the produce department, often viewed as the "medicine chest? of the grocery store, we?re reaching health-conscious consumers and making wholesome almonds more accessible."
