F. Scott Salyer, who was the owner of the now-bankrupt Salinas, CA- based Salyer American Fresh Foods produce company, as well as SK Foods, which was a major player in the processed tomato industry, pled guilty Friday, March 23, to racketeering in a price-fixing scheme involving tomato products. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 10 and could receive a sentence of up to 20 years, though he is expected to get four to seven years as part of the plea bargain.

Mann Packing Co. is adding two items to its line of fresh, washed, ready-to-eat vegetables: Brussels sprouts and a new blend for rainbow salad.

Mann's Brussels sprouts are trimmed, washed and packaged in a microwave steamable 12-ounce bag.

The National Mango Board started a new retail program, Mango Retailer of the Year, which will recognize retailers for exceptional support and promotion of mangos. Mango retailers from across the United States are encouraged to participate as the NMB and its retail account managers evaluate and honor four retailers that will be named mango model retailers. From these four, just one will be named mango retailer of the year, but all four honorees will receive special recognition from the NMB.
