The Second Annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl game, of which the Idaho Potato Commission in Eagle, ID, is the title sponsor, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15 on the famous blue turf of Boise State University’s Bronco Stadium in Boise.

Twenty-fifth-ranked Utah State University, which was defeated in the first Famous Idaho Potato Bowl face-off in the final seconds of last year’s game by Ohio State after having led the entire game, will be back determined to emerge victorious this year.

Taking part in USA Onions/Weber grill products “Get Grillin’” football bowl season retail display contest, produce managers across the country have put in orders for custom logo-emblazoned black Weber Kettle grills as well as plenty of Spanish Sweets from the Idaho-Eastern Oregon’s onion-growing region.

Kicking off Dec. 15 and ending Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, the retail display contest provides produce departments the opportunity to increase their onion sales and win great prizes simultaneously.

Curry & Co has redesigned its onion boxes to provide retailers with barn-red boxes guaranteed to create visual excitement in the produce department. “We wanted something bright, bold and colorful that clearly said ‘farm’,” President Matt Curry told The Produce News. “Our aim was packaging that gets noticed, is functional for displays and connects the consumer to the grower. What consumer doesn’t feel produce starts with an image as iconic as a red barn?”

Faced with an announcement from the U.S. Department of Commerce that it would terminate a tomato anti-dumping duty suspension agreement that has been in place between Mexico and the United States since 1996, tomato growers in Mexico have asked the department to reconsider and renegotiate the agreement and have put forth proposals they believe should adequately address concerns of the department and of the Florida tomato industry.

Washington state's Commission on Hispanic Affairs recently honored Stemilt Growers with a Community Collaboration Award based on the company's strong investment and involvement in the Hispanic community.
