An early harvest and favorable growing conditions for Michigan blueberries has North Bay Produce positioned to provide customers with fresh blueberries from the state throughout the season.

“The summer berry season is off to a strong start, with Michigan blueberries trending earlier than normal this year,” said Ryan Lockman, vice president of sales and procurement at Traverse City, MI-based North Bay. “Harvest began around June 25 in our southern growing regions, and we are seeing a good-quality crop with solid volume.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in collaboration with state and local partners, are investigating a multistate outbreak of Cyclospora illnesses linked to shredded Iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. The illnesses included in this outbreak are a subset of the Cyclospora illnesses identified nationwide.
