La Bonanza has positive outlook for Mexican avocado season
Drought conditions in Mexico’s main avocado-growing region in Michoacan that have hampered fruit size and volume the past couple of years eased this past summer, giving La Bonanza a positive outlook for the season ahead.
“As we stand on the threshold of a new growing season, we are encouraged by early signs of substantially higher volume compared to the past two seasons,” said Valeria Villaseñor, vice president at La Bonanza. “We enter this season with optimism, ready to channel our full efforts into delivering exceptional results.”
Villaseñor said La Bonanza is a multi-generational company that takes pride in its craft and is driven by a tradition of cultivating the finest Hass avocados.
She said its vertical integration means La Bonanza oversees 100 percent of the process, from nurturing the trees in the orchard through harvest, and finally through processing and distribution to safeguard quality and consistency.
“In keeping with that responsibility, we are actively investing in innovations in the fields, and adopting best practices and sustainable techniques that elevate both flavor and integrity,” she said.
La Bonanza recently added a new veteran sales executive to help move the anticipated larger volume. Patrick McGinnis was named national director of sales, bringing with him two decades of experience in grocery and product development. With his help, the company is seeking greater penetration in the retail market.
“With Patrick’s help, our goals are to grow strategically in retail while maintaining reliability and quality,” said Villaseñor. “We want to continue to innovate while being a long-term trusted partner for retailers.”
Villaseñor said La Bonanza expects to be flush with retail-friendly fruit sizes, including 36s, 40s and 48s, which are preferred in the U.S. market. Yet it will still have smaller sizes, up to 60s, that are also valued for bagged presentations as well as foodservice and processing markets.
But no matter where demand lies, La Bonanza will be ready to fulfill its clients’ needs.
“As we look ahead, we reaffirm our dedication to excellence, sustainability and reliability,” said Villaseñor. “We will work with focus, discipline, and an unwavering standard of quality to bring to market the premium avocados our customers expect and deserve.”
