Market Minute: Promote all berries through Easter
Spring is here and that means it’s berry season again. It’s also an incentive to set up some very attractive berry batch displays.
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries always give rise to an eye-catching display. Those bright colorful visual displays showcasing a variety of berries will most always appeal to shoppers and influence them to make multiple purchases, which will impact and drive mega sales.
Take advantage of all the berries available at one time and promote them now and up to the Easter holiday. Set up your visual display at the first location as customers enter the produce department. Add related items with the display like shortcake, pie crusts, chocolate dip, strawberry glaze and whipped cream. Those items can trigger dessert ideas to customers.
The strawberry supply is moving from Mexico and Florida to the California region. Mexico and Florida are rapidly finishing up any strawberries that are available due to the normal seasonal transition to the western spring and summer crops. The strawberry demand is moderate and market about steady. The quality is outstanding as usual.
Blueberry supplies out of Peru and Mexico are light with a moderate market. Florida is just starting with a very light supply on a demand exceeds the market. Overall quality is excellent. The raspberry volume out of Mexico is peaking with good demand and a steady market. Blackberries are in good demand and about a steady market. The quality remains good. Looks like the volume will hold steady.
Set up an ad plan with your berry suppliers to make sure that the product amounts required will fill your promotional needs with all four varieties.
