New trends in sleeves and packaging
New trends in sleeves and packaging
The hunt for trends is a roller coaster ride for our design team. Deciphering and categorizing the plethora of available information can be quite a challenge. As we work through it all, we begin to see certain trends emerge and grow and take on a life of their own; the following four stand out, and apply to broad applications, including floral sleeves and packaging.
• Romantic Chic. An extraordinary meeting of elements that injects newness into the revival of strong pastel shades. The general feeling of seductive beauty is expressed in a fairy-tale mood as nature’s perpetual movements are captured in ephemeral still-lifes. Everything is light, airy and innocent which is in total contrast with urban themes. There is a raw dimension that hints at femininity with natural charm, rustic yet delicate, wild yet precious.
• Urban Organic. From the wild, rural outdoors to the urban landscape in a post-industrial world, we have long embraced how to adapt ourselves to survive in a constantly changing environment. In today’s world, the challenges are different and often virtual instead of physical, but our need and ability to adapt to change remains our key strength and basic instinct. Designs about coming down to earth with farm and city merging into a more sustainable future are popular — nature meets modern, industrial style.
• Coastal. This style has timeless appeal because of its relaxed, peaceful and vacation-like vibe. Coastal will always be in style and relevant as long as it is played down, relying more on textures, colors, and shapes rather than literal nods like shells, fish and anchors, although classical, nautical icons are fun in smaller doses. Navy and white stripes, big floral prints and a splash of coral make nice accents. Complementary, muted solids help accent patterns and tone down larger displays. Many designers take classic, nautical prints and enlarge them as much as 300 percent to create something true to its original form size. The teal, white and blue geometric shapes used in designs are drastically increased to put a fresh spin on timeless patterns.
• Bohemian. An ongoing craze that doesn’t show signs of stopping is ethnic and bohemian fashion finds. The Western fashion world has aggressively adopted the beaded, feathery and kaleidoscopic designs of bohemian culture and has integrated it into every imaginable contemporary design category. Bold, graphic prints and simple shapes are a mix of multicultural fashion. The bohemian trend promotes unity of ethnic backgrounds and embraces cultural diversity through multicultural designs that display acceptance and respect while at the same time celebrating our ability to have fun and express ourselves. This has resulted in beautiful patterns rooted in traditions and authenticity that transcend borders into fashion, interior design and packaging.
At Temkin International we incorporate these leading trends into our packaging, sleeves and related bouquet products. We expect these popular styles to continue to gain strength long into 2015.
