New software solution from FoodLink guarantees PTI compliance
FoodLink, the commerce and traceability platform for fresh food retailers, wholesalers and more than 2,000 growers, packers and shippers, introduced a new solution for warehouse inventory management to attendees at the recent United Fresh 2013 in San Diego.
FoodLink WMS for the Field is a cloud-based supply chain solution to monitor remote operations and track incoming field and bulk-packed inventory. The solution extends visibility to product in the field that hasn't yet been received at a cooler, and works for both single-grower operations and for facilities processing inbound product from multiple growers and growing regions.
FoodLink WMS also includes a guarantee that all tracked inventory will be compliant with new industry requirements for produce traceability.
"FoodLink is really the first in the industry to bring this type of solution to the market, and we're filling a critical need for growers and shippers during that first mile of the fresh supply chain," Eric Peters, chief executive officer of FoodLink, based in Los Gatos, CA, said in a press release. "The clock starts ticking the second an item of produce gets cut, and there are significant benefits when you get accurate, traceable inventory information to sales and operations teams as quickly as possible."
FoodLink WMS begins tracking inventory from the minute a case is filled in the field and creates an alert when the product leaves the field. The system reads standard case labels with handheld or smartphone-based scanning devices.
Warehouse teams receive real-time updates about inbound loads and estimated time of arrival at receiving docks, and sales executives get faster and more accurate visibility into sellable product inventory.
The information helps accelerate throughput at the cooler facility, reduces the number of delayed outbound loads and aligns sales efforts with true inventory levels, according to the press release
FoodLink WMS specifically helps produce shippers by:
- Accelerating inventory turns at the warehouse.
- Improving the freshness of food traveling across the entire supply chain.
- Providing sales teams with real-time intelligence about available inventory.
- Reducing unnecessary wait times and loading bottlenecks at receiving docks.
