Target has named Amy Tu chief legal and compliance officer and corporate secretary effective Aug. 25. In her new role, Tu will lead the company's legal, compliance and corporate governance functions. She succeeds Don Liu, who recently announced his upcoming retirement and will transition to a strategic advisory role. Tu joins Target's leadership team and will report to Brian Cornell, chair and CEO.

The Colombian Hass avocado industry announced an initiative that seeks to mitigate greenhouse gases to prevent ecological risks and counteract climate change and its impact on biodiversity.

The goal of the initiative, known as the Carbon Hass Project, is to achieve the sustainable development goals in the agricultural sector, which are in line with the country’s institutional framework.

Instacart’s and PHA’s joint commitment was made as part of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health in 2022.

The Michigan Apple Committee hosted its second annual Handpicked Social Media Summit on July 30 in Sparta, MI. The summit brought together seven leaders in the Michigan apple industry to learn the latest trends and best practices across social media channels and platforms, enabling them to create compelling grower-generated content showcasing their unique stories. Ultimately these individuals will use this knowledge and expertise to promote their own businesses — as well as the Michigan apple industry — as online ambassadors.

Potatoes USA elected Shelley R. Olsen as chair of the board at its annual meeting. Potatoes USA also announced its Executive Committee members to lead the organization through 2024-25.

This marks the seventh year that Olsen, of Othello, WA, has served on Potatoes USA’s board and her fourth year on the executive committee. She previously co-chaired the board’s industry outreach and international marketing committees.
