Market Minute: Green Bell peppers primed for promotion
Green Bell peppers are highly popular and are a main staple item mostly used as a cooking ingredient. Budget-conscious consumers often choose them over other colored varieties because they are more affordable.
California and Florida grow the most Bell peppers in the U.S. with Georgia ranking third. The most common colors grown are green, red, yellow and orange. The green being the most popular and red being the sweetest.
Florida green peppers are starting to improve with good supplies. The demand is good and the market is steady. Green peppers out of the western area are also reporting a lower market on good supplies. Mexican green pepper supplies are starting out strong and showing a light demand on a lower market. Quality is excellent on green Bell peppers from all regions.
The colored Bell pepper production is lighter and markets are stronger.
This is a good time to promote green Bell peppers in your weekly ad flyer while the supplies and market costs are reasonable. Plan to expand display space allocation by giving peppers a visual presentation to draw shoppers and persuade them to make ample purchases.
Check with your pepper suppliers for required amounts and other details to support your promotion.
