A trio of supply chain experts painted a bleak picture for the immediate future concerning the logistics issues that have plagued the United States and the world for the past two years. They each agreed that the current port bottlenecks, rising truck rates and labor issues will be evident throughout 2022 and probably well into 2023.

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced the launch of the Wilmington Midwest Express, the North Carolina Ports Authority’s daily direct rail connection to the Midwest via the Carolina Connector Intermodal Rail Terminal in Rocky Mount, NC.

This new service will supply a key intermodal capability of expediting shipping containers to the Midwest while concurrently reducing customer transit costs and emissions. 

Walmart announced that Gatik, an autonomous trucking company, is operating daily without a safety driver behind the wheel on its delivery route for Walmart in Bentonville, AR, moving customer orders between a Walmart dark store and a Neighborhood Market in its fleet of multi-temperature autonomous box trucks.

Gatik’s deployment with Walmart in the state represents one of the first times that an autonomous trucking company has removed the safety driver from a commercial delivery route on the middle mile anywhere in the world.
