Leading the way: Insights from IFPA Leadership Program Class 29
The International Fresh Produce Association’s Leadership Program Class 29 will be graduating at this year’s Global Produce & Floral Show. The competitive program brings together 12 mid-level produce and floral professionals through a year of in-person events, tours and mentoring opportunities. Participants develop essential leadership and business skills while creating a strong network across the entire supply chain. The program is made possible by Corteva Agriscience’s sponsorship.
Each class nominates a fellow to represent their cohort at graduation, and we sat down with this year’s chosen leader, Stephanie Tramutola, director of marketing and administration at A&J Produce Corp., to speak about her experience.
Q: When we think about the Leadership Program, the professionals at this point in their careers are at such a powerful place in their own development and what they can bring to the industry. What advice would you give for someone who might be at this inflection point in their career and what should they consider as they determine the next steps on their career path?
Tramutola: Recognize that this stage in your career is about stepping into a new level of responsibility and influence. Challenge yourself in how you lead, how you think and how you contribute to the bigger picture of our industry.
The IFPA Leadership Program proves that the more exposure you have to different people, places and ideas, the more mindful and capable you become. Equally as important is seeking feedback, reflecting on the kind of leader you want to be, and embracing your strengths while turning weaknesses into opportunities for growth.
By staying engaged, surrounding yourself with inspiring leaders, and applying the lessons you have gained, you put yourself in the best position to drive innovation, build community and ensure the industry continues to evolve and thrive.
At this crossroads, the choices you make will shape not only your path but also the impact you have on others. With growth comes responsibility, and every step forward is a chance to create meaningful change.
Q: The Leadership Program is not only the experience you have within the program events and activities, but the connections you make with people across the industry, what are your thoughts on the potential and possibility that the program delivers on for the industry as a whole?
Tramutola: The Leadership Program proves that our industry is strongest when we are connected. It creates a space to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and learn from one another, reinforcing that in produce, relationships are everything.
What makes those connections even more powerful is the commitment behind them. This program is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders. The resources, exposure and support we have received strengthen our influence and give us the confidence to lead with purpose. The overwhelming generosity of leaders and companies who have shared their time and insight shows how much this industry values investing in its future.
The possibility extends well beyond the program year. The produce community will continue to guide and encourage us long after graduation, cultivating leaders across the supply chain and ensuring the fresh produce industry not only adapts and innovates but also thrives into the future.
Q: The cohort of leaders in the Leadership Program are those who are on an upward trajectory in their fields. What do you think the industry should know about you and your fellow cohort leaders and what you’re looking to accomplish in the industry in the coming years?
Tramutola: Class 29 is driven, diverse and deeply passionate about produce. We represent every part of the supply chain, united by a commitment to growth, community and meaningful change. This year has been one of the most important of our careers, pushing us to recognize our responsibility and rise as leaders to make a real difference. We leave this program stronger, more confident and eager to take on what comes next.
Through IFPA, and our generous sponsor Corteva Agriscience, we have gained once-in-a-lifetime experiences. We understand the influence we have not only in our careers but also on the people and communities around us. Equipped with the tools, training and platform to confront the toughest challenges facing our industry, we are prepared to tackle them head-on.
Our voices matter, and we know the power they carry. We have the ability to shape the future of fresh for generations to come. Class 29 is ready to lead, ready to act and determined to move this industry forward. Our commitment is clear: leave the produce industry stronger than we found it and continue the fight for fresh.
Tramutola and her cohort colleagues will be in attendance at the Global Produce & Floral Show in Anaheim this year for their official graduation.
Class 30 will be announced around this time as well as the newest class of leaders join the more than 350 produce industry Leadership Program alumni. We congratulate 2025’s Class 29.
