WILMINGTON, DE — Tom Keefer retired June 30 as the deputy executive director of the port of Wilmington, DE.
Keefer, age 67, started in his position in June 2002. He retired from the U.S. Navy reserves as a commander in 1990. He was on active duty in the Navy from 1970 until 1980, when he was a lieutenant commander. He was involved in business management prior to taking the port position.

After relaxing through the remainder of this summer, Keefer plans to pursue some combination of three interests: consulting, financial planning services and “becoming a teaching adjunct at local schools.”
He said, “It has been a really fantastic experience. We have a super team here. We have great labor, great administration and great management and organizations.”
The port of Wilmington has “a very, very supportive board of directors and Delaware legislature,” he said. “Governor (Jack) Markell is a very strong advocate with support for capital projects, which we needed. We have great customers and have had good success growing the business here.”
