Jacobsen Farms opens its doors in Nogales
A new produce distributor has been created in Nogales, AZ. Jacobsen Farms LLC, which was launched Sept. 1, will be big in distributing Jalapeño peppers, according to Ryan Jacobsen, who founded the company. Italian, yellow and gray squash are leading among other Mexican items that will be sold to U.S. retailers or foodservice operators.

Jacobsen has eight years of produce sales experience. He previously worked for Eagle Eye Produce Inc., which is located in nearby Rio Rico, AZ. His father, Jake Jacobsen, is a partner in Eagle Eye. Ryan Jacobsen said he left Eagle Eye “with a blessing” from his father and the firm.
Jacobsen’s approach as he starts his own venture “is to keep it small and focus on the customers.” He is renting an office and using warehousing space at Wilson Produce LLC.
Because of rains in Mexico, the squash deal will start about Oct. 1, which is two weeks later than was originally anticipated, he said. For Jacobsen’s growers, Jalapeños and other Mexican chilies will begin to be harvested about Oct. 15.
