Industry veteran James Caldwell dies at 73
James Chapman Caldwell, a longtime produce veteran, died June 8. He was 73.
With 35 years of produce industry experience in Phoenix, Mr. Caldwell worked for United Produce, Harbor Banana, Associated Grocers and Amex Distributing.
In 1980 he opened his own produce brokerage company, Caldwell Enterprises, with his son, John, and enjoyed success until he retired in 2005.
Mr. Caldwell is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna Jean; sons, John (wife Wendy) and Bill (wife Anje); four grandchildren, Charlotte, Emma, Sutton and Ella; and two sisters, Mary and Ginger.
Born in Houston, Mr. Caldwell and his family moved to Peoria, AZ, in 1954. He remained there until his passing.
Mr. Caldwell was an avid soccer fan and fly fisherman. After receiving a heart transplant in 1990, his passion turned toward mentoring new transplant recipients.
A memorial service will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 East Pinnacle Peak Road, on Friday, June 12 at 3 p.m., reception to follow on site.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations in the name of James Caldwell can be made to Hospice of the Valley or The Donor Network of Arizona.
