Imagination Farms adds mangos
Imagination Farms continues to leverage consumer opportunities with the "Disney" brand by expanding its category reach to include mangos in its comprehensive product offerings. Mangos will be supplied by Progreso Produce, based in Boerne, TX.
Mark Haun, West Coast sales manager for Imagination Farms, said in a press release, "A comprehensive category assortment is an important goal for our program to assure that we can offer real opportunities for consumers to increase consumption by trying a variety of fruits and vegetables, including mangos."
With the "Disney" brand presence continuing to grow, Imagination Farms continues to find opportunities to capitalize on the popularity of high-profile Disney properties like "High School Musical" as a vehicle to reach out to kids and make eating fruits and vegetables fun and engaging. To help with this, Disney Garden will promote Makin' Music mangos labeled with collectible PLU stickers that peel open to reveal instructions for how to cut a mango, as well as a recipe for Sing & Share Salsa.
The Disney Garden mango program will have year-round supplies from Mexico, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil, and will include both bulk and packaged clamshell product. Varieties offered will be Ataulfo, Haden, Kent, Keitt and Tommy Atkins, with shipments to United States and Canadian receivers starting by late April.
Research shows that mango purchases are increasing and that families with kids showed a 3 percent increase in purchases in 2008 vs. 2007. "We believe this is good news for the mango category and our marketing strategy," Melinda Goodman, director of marketing for Imagination Farms, said in the press release. "We will continue to capitalize on this trend by developing high-graphic packaging and point-of-sale material that includes educational messages that helps kids and families use more mangos and make it a staple among their fresh fruit choices."
