Fox Packaging, an industry leader in flexible packaging innovation, has added an additional UTECO printing press to its dedicated facility.

“Expanding our manufacturing capacity is essential to meet growing customer demand and it also presents Fox Packaging with an opportunity to make fast turnaround on large print runs,” said Lucas Fox, director of operations for Fox Packaging.

At Snake River Produce, in Nyssa, OR, both General Manager Kay Riley and Transportation Manager/Sales-Marketing Assistant Tiffany Cruickshank said in September they were glad to see steady demand for early onions out of Idaho-E. Oregon’s Treasure Valley.

Noting an early and smooth start-up after favorable growing conditions, Baker & Murakami Produce COO Cameron Skeen said the 2020 onion shipping season has also been greeted with good supplies as well as demand.

The Ontario, OR-based grower-shipper, one of the biggest in the nation, is also seeing good quality in all three colors, he added.

A group of the world’s largest food retailers and providers announced that nearly 200 of their major suppliers have committed to root out food loss and waste from the supply chain. The 10-plus food retailers and providers lead the groundbreaking “10x20x30” initiative, with each having engaged at least 20 suppliers to halve food loss and waste by 2030.  

The U.S. presidential election is growing tighter, according to national pundit Frank Luntz.

Luntz, participating in the United Fresh Produce Washington Congress virtual meeting on Sept. 23, spoke by Zoom to 200 produce industry participants. This general session was kicked off Ray Starling, former chief of staff to Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, and Tom Vilsack, former Secretary of Agriculture under President Obama. Starling and Vilsack presented their respective cases for why Donald Trump and Joe Biden is the best choice for the produce industry.
