Makoto expands with Boom Boom Sauce, new factory
Makoto is experiencing record demand for its dressings and sauces and is expanding operations accordingly. The company is producing 36,000 bottles daily and is now growing into its fourth production facility to keep pace with its rapidly increasing national footprint.
As part of its ongoing innovation, Makoto launched a new product: Boom Boom Sauce. A much-requested addition, this sauce balances a sweet, honey-like flavor with a bold kick of spice at the end. It’s just hot enough to deliver flavor — but still perfectly enjoyable by all.
“Our fresh, gourmet dressings — like our classic Ginger and Honey Ginger varieties — have long been fan favorites,” said Wayne Brown, national sales manager. “We felt this was the perfect time to introduce a new product that captures the high-quality, gourmet flavors Makoto is known for, while offering even more versatility as a marinade, sauce or dip.”
In addition to expanding its product line and facilities, Makoto continues to add to and evolve its packaging to meet modern retail and foodservice needs. The brand now offers versatile formats, including PC cups, pouches and gallon jugs, allowing for expanded usage across restaurants, foodservice and home kitchens.
The story of Makoto Dressing started as a steakhouse in 1982 and took a transformative turn when it was acquired in 1985 by Thomas Cobb. Due to high demand from the customers at the restaurant, Cobb began bottling the signature dressing and selling it locally.
That momentum quickly attracted attention from a major retailer in the area, which led to a DSD (Direct-store delivery) partnership — and a launch that sparked nationwide success and a plethora of retail partnerships. Today, Makoto is still a family-owned business with three generations of the family providing a variety of products that can be found in major retailers across all 50 states.
