This week Walmart announced the grand opening of its newest Supercenter in Cypress, TX — the company’s first ground-up Supercenter in four years and the first new-construction “Store of the Future” in the U.S. The company said this milestone marks an exciting step forward in Walmart’s plan to build or convert more than 150 stores over the next several years as part of its long-term commitment to modernizing retail, expanding access to essential services and strengthening communities nationwide.

Edward L. Myrick Produce, located in Pompano Beach, FL, is currently shifting its attention to Georgia, where it partners with Leslie-based Minor Brother Produce, best known for its Bay View brand green beans. This collaboration has been integral to Myrick’s operations since 1994, providing a steady supply of produce year-round.

Wakefern Food Corp., one of the nation’s largest retailer-owned cooperatives with member companies that own and operate the supermarket banners ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market, will host hiring fairs on Saturday, May 3.

Candidates looking for career opportunities and valuable experience in retail can attend the walk-up job fairs, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at store locations throughout New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware and Maryland.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has imposed sanctions on four produce businesses for failing to meet contractual obligations to the sellers of produce they purchased and failing to pay reparation awards issued under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. 

These sanctions include suspending the businesses’ PACA licenses and barring the principal operators of the businesses from engaging in PACA-licensed business or other activities without approval from USDA.
