“In November, we are celebrating our 33rd year in business,” said Charlie Eagle, vice president of business and development for the Pompano Beach, FL-based company. “We started out growing specialty produce in Guatemala, and today, we grow, import, process and distribute product in 10 countries and the Americas.”

Charles Munger, longtime Costco board member and vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, died Nov. 28 at the age of 99. "No one loved Costco more than Charlie," said Costco CEO Craig Jelinek. "The company benefited greatly from his wisdom over the last quarter-century plus. We at Costco extend our deep condolences to his family."

Costco Wholesale Corp. addressed Mr. Munger's death in its latest sales report. The company reported net sales of $20.14 billion for the retail month of November, the four weeks ended Nov. 26, an increase of 5.1 percent from $19.17 billion last year.

R&R Flaim Next Generation Produce, a leading vegetable grower-shipper in Vineland, NJ, is now offering wrapped produce items as a result of requests from its retail clients.

Ryan Flaim told The Produce News that the company purchased a new machine in late summer that does pack wrapping and retail packs, and the company began offering the option with some of its late-summer items. It now offers most of its products in either naked or wrapped options, including broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, hard squash, sweet potatoes and cabbage.

With national initiatives being created across the food industry to encourage more family meals, the FMI (Food Marketing Institute) Foundation recently announced its 2023 Gold Plate Award winners, highlighting outstanding family meal programs and campaigns implemented by the food industry consisting of retailers, manufacturers and community collaborators.
