GrubMarket announced that it has completed the acquisition of south Texas-based London Fruit, a family-owned wholesale distribution business handling avocados, mangos, limes and other premium tropical fruits sourced from its network of producers across Mexico, Peru, and other parts of South America.

The Southeast Produce Council partnered with Society of St. Andrew to distribute free, nutritious produce during its second annual community food distribution in Macon, GA, on July 21. Reinforcing the SEPC Cares initiative, SEPC member volunteers joined the SoSA team, in collaboration with Atrium Hospital, to provide much-needed provisions for the community.

Bob Palmer, CEO of C&S Wholesale Grocers LLC, will retire at the end of the year, though he will continue as a member of the C&S board of directors. Long-time C&S leader Eric Winn, C&S’s chief operating officer, will assume the role of CEO upon Palmer’s retirement on Oct. 2.

Mission Produce Inc. named Tony Sarsam to its board of directors, effective Aug. 14. Sarsam is appointed as an independent Class I director, with a term expiring at the company’s 2024 annual meeting of stockholders. In connection with this appointment, Mission Produce’s board of directors has increased the size of the board from eight to nine directors.

For many years, Louis Caputo has joked that Caputo and Guest has been the “little brother” of the mushroom industry. Because when big retail companies ordered mushrooms, the mostly ordered common varieties from large suppliers.

“And they’d have this little portion of the order that was specialty mushrooms,” said Caputo, chief operating officer for Caputo and Guest, headquartered in in Kennett Square, PA. “The big mushroom growers would just call us and buy their specialty mushrooms from us. And that really created a barrier for us.”
