Dinnertime is saved by the belle — and Fresh Express
ANAHEIM, CA — When I wake up in the morning and the alarm gives out a warning, I already know I’ll be pressed for time when it comes to dinner that night. My family is in good — though stressed — company since many households have strained schedules: parents work to put food on the table but are often short on time when it comes to ensuring that food is nutritious. As a result, getting meals ready quickly is growing more important, and companies like Fresh Express are helping us get up to speed with nutritious — and fast — options.
Tiffani Thiessen, who rose to fame as a star on Saved by the Bell, has partnered with Fresh Express to help spread the message that quicker meals can still be both delicious and nutritious. She sees the company’s salad kits “inspiring creativity in the kitchen while making healthy eating both fun and delicious.” That inspiration is essential for time-strapped families. “Most households have both parents working, and so it's very hard to cook homemade meals every day of the week,” she said in an interview with The Produce News. “You can take these salad kits and be super creative still and make recipes out of them without having to spend two hours.”
Thiessen is part of the Fresh Expressionists program, which spotlights chefs, dietitians and culinary voices who inspire consumers to embrace delicious ways of eating well. The actress, who is also a cookbook author and mother, said she got into the food business over the past decade: “Food has been such a huge career that I've had besides entertainment.” Growing up with a love for cooking and entertaining, she said she’s always tried to live a healthy lifestyle, which made it easy to connect with a produce company.
“Teaming up with Fresh Express was kind of a perfect partnership because my husband and I were already big fans of Fresh Express — we were big salad lovers,” she said. “Now as a parent healthy eating involves trying to be creative in the kitchen with your kids and showing that you can take something like Fresh Express and be creative with your recipes. It is the perfect partnership.”
Thiessen’s history in the spotlight does a tremendous job in helping her spread the message: “I'm someone that can be looked at as nostalgic for a lot of people — being on TV and kind of growing up on TV — and now having kids there's lots of people who can relate to me as a mom, but also someone they're familiar with.”
At the recent IFPA Global Show, Thiessen helped Fresh Express highlight its new Fresh Express Mediterranean Herb Chopped Kit, expanding on its large selection of salad kits. She has also been publishing social media posts highlighting meals and recipes inspired by the company’s salad kits, and she will be featured in commercials due to come out next year.
Perhaps when I’m struggling to assemble a healthy dinner tonight, I’ll take a deep breath, open a Fresh Express bag, check out Thiessen’s recipes and think, “It's alright 'cause I'm saved by the bell[e].”
