Food Lion is launching its annual Gala Apple Bag campaign as part of its continued efforts to help reduce food insecurity throughout Food Lion’s 10-state operating footprint. Food Lion customers can purchase specially marked Gala apple bags from Sept. 17 through Oct. 7 or make a cash donation to support community hunger relief organizations. Food Lion Feeds was founded in 2014 by Food Lion to address food insecurity.

The International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Show, taking place Oct. 16–18 in Anaheim, CA, will feature the largest global buyer presence in the event’s history. 

The return of a normal pear crop isn’t the only thing Stemilt is celebrating this season. This marks the third year that Stemilt has shipped small volumes of its new pear variety, Happi Pear, as part of its mission to innovate the category and remind consumers of their love for pears. While Happi Pear is still growing to commercial volume, Stemilt’s marketing director, Brianna Shales, said it’s positioned to become the company’s third pear variety by volume in the future.

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The Eastern Produce Council hosted its annual Tailgate Dinner Tuesday, Sept. 16 at MetLife Stadium, here. The event was sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission, Shuman Farms and Oppy. This year’s featured speaker was former New York Giant Amani Toomer, one of the most productive wide receivers in team history, capturing 16 franchise records.

This year’s Peruvian asparagus deal has been much more consistent than last season featuring better volume and a solid marketing situation, though the tariffs have cut into profits.

The GIANT Co. recently hosted its annual Floral Seminar, bringing together nearly 200 floral team members for a day full of learning, creating, celebrating the team and planning for the upcoming holiday season. In addition, 12 team members were recognized as top performers from each region.
