Exciting growth is happening at Manfredi Cold Storage
Manfredi Cold Storage is a family-owned and operated third-party logistics company that provides temperature-controlled storage, repacking, refrigerated freight and other services to the produce industry.
The company provides fleet services throughout the Northeast, Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions while its national refrigerated freight company provides freight brokering across the United States.
There has been some big growth at the company in recent years, and those at Manfredi are excited to be headed to the International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral show to talk with attendees about all that’s happening.
“This show is a great place and time to have direct face-to-face meetings with customers and prospective customers that we don’t typically get to see during the year,” said Rob Wharry, director of operations for the company. “As a service provider for the fresh produce industry, being able to have our customers all in one place allows us to continue to maintain the relationships that are critical to our business. Personal attention and in-person meetings are critical to that goal.”
At the show, team members will be showcasing the enhancements that Manfredi is making to all of its facilities.
“These include dedicated packaging storage and updated and upgraded driver welfare spaces including break areas and food services,” Wharry said.
For instance, the company’s Kennett Square facility recently completed the infrastructure for an additional 2,000 pallet positions and is also adding two new eight-pallet avocado ripening rooms with space for another six ripening rooms, while its Pedricktow, NJ, location recently opened for an additional 10,000 pallet positions, with all electric and refrigeration infrastructure in place.
Manfredi has enjoyed long and trusted relationships with its customers for decades and understands how to maneuver out of troubling times.
“The seasonality of the global markets and how weather and global events impact those seasons and volumes are some of our biggest issues today,” Wharry said. “Our biggest challenge is the ever-changing volumes and how to successfully manage capacity to stay ahead of changes. Open and constant communication has been our biggest weapon in trying to manage this.”
As team members get ready to travel to the IFPA show, Manfredi’s strategy is to be able to spend as much time with its customers as possible and get feedback from them on how it can continue to offer services that will allow them to have a successful business.
“Manfredi has been actively growing all aspects of its business including warehouse space, repack space and equipment and transportation — both port drayage and customer deliveries — at both of our locations in the Philadelphia region,” Wharry said. “Our goal is to be able to grow and evolve to keep pace with the changing global produce industry.”
