Fountain of life and messenger of love
Fountain of life and messenger of love
“For bees, the flower is the fountain of life;
For flowers, the bee is the messenger of love.”
~Khalil Gibran (1883-1931); Lebanese artist and poet
As this edition of Floral Marketing in The Produce News hits the streets, floral professionals will be deep into the preparation for, and execution of, Mother’s Day and Memorial Day — the last of the spring floral holidays. But just because the holidays are coming to an end, that doesn’t mean there is a lack of activity in the industry. When all the flower petals have settled, it’s time to exhale, regroup, and plan for summer and fall.
In this issue, our merchandising team, Karli Nelson and Denise McPartland, offer some suggestions and tips to help make Father’s Day profitable in your floral department, and we preview the upcoming International Floral Expo in Chicago; the PMA Fresh Connections: Floral in Miami; the FLGLA convention in Florida; the FPFC SoCal in Anaheim; the IFTEX in Kenya and AIFD’s 50-year anniversary and Symposium in Denver. We also recap some recent industry events, including Macy’s Spring Flower Show, FPFC’s NorCal Expo and the ASCFG California Grower Intensive.
As we roll into summer, there are a wide variety of events that offer floral professionals the chance to network with each other and to learn what is new and trending in the industry.
After all of your hard work this hectic winter and spring, I hope you’ll take advantage of those various opportunities to become refreshed and to refuel. After all, for those in the floral industry — who are usually as busy as bees — flowers truly represent both the fountain of life and the messenger of love.
See you next month.
