One visit to Booth No. 905 at Southern Exposure, and visitors will understand why tree-ripened peaches can’t be beat. The booth will be manned by Florida Classic Growers, located in Dundee, FL. The company prides itself on supplying the highest quality fruit to its customers.
Al Finch“The Florida peach is a ‘true tree ripened’ peach,” President Al Finch told The Produce News. “When you pick a Florida peach from the tree, its ready to eat. We begin harvesting the peaches typically when Chile completes their program [in mid-March], and we finish as California, Georgia and South Carolina begin with their respective programs. During the month of April, Florida peaches have an exclusivity in the marketplace.”
Finch said the Florida Classic tree-ripened peach program continues through the month of May.
He provided some tips for retailers designed to keep the peaches at the peak of perfection. “We suggest to our retail partners to promote and merchandise the peaches as “tree-ripened and ready to eat,” he commented. “We also suggest that the peaches be merchandised on refrigeration, if possible, to extend shelf life.”
