Pierre Dolbec began his new role as vice president of sales and procurement — commodities with Sherrington, Quebec-based Veg Pro International July 9.

Veg Pro has facilities in Sherrington, Quebec and Belle Glade, FL, where it processes and packages its specialties of baby lettuce and spinach among other fresh vegetables. The Veg Pro continuous production of spring mix and spinach are sold under the “Fresh Attitude” label.

Capespan North America with two main offices, one in Montreal and one in Philadelphia, imports citrus, grapes, apples, pears and stone fruit.

“On the imports side, the volumes of fruit we expect this year, both for the U.S. and for Canada will far exceed last year’s numbers,” said Mr. Marier, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Capespan North America. “We have a good supply source and large volumes.”

Frescadel is a division of Canadawide specializing in consumer packaging of fruit. Frescadel uses a Modified Atmosphere Packaging to extend the shelf life of the product. This helps reduce loss and extends the reach of distribution. Frescadel uses MAP to extend the shelf life of commodities such as Brussel sprouts, snow peas, cherry tomatoes and kumquats.

“We also package other products that do not require the MAP system,” said Fernande Bernier of Canadawide — Frescadel. “These include hot peppers, stone fruit including peaches and nectarines as well as kiwis, all in clamshells.”
