Dan's Foods gives $5,000 to MDA following world-record feat
Salt Lake City, UT-based Dan's Foods, a member of Associated Food Stores' independent retailer-owned warehouse services based in Salt Lake City, will not just be making a "Cameo" appearance in the Guinness Book of World Records.
It is also helping the Muscular Dystrophy Association with $5,000 which it and Oneonta-Starr Ranch Growers of Wenatchee, WA, raised as part of a recent World's Largest Cameo Apple Display.
Dan's Foods' Salt Lake City store located on South Wasatch Boulevard, arranged for trucks deliver more than 181,000 Cameo apples produced by Oneonta-Starr Ranch Growers, and team members at Dan's put to good use the facility's sizable storefront to build the Cameo apple display, which was billed as "the largest ever."
When it was complete, the display consisted of approximately 2,380 cases of apples.
"We really wanted to make a statement with the display and wanted it to be a community event," said Steve Sorenson, store director at Dan's.
"We not only wanted to set a new world record, but also wanted to have some fun in building something memorable." Mr. Sorenson brought in additional employees for the mid- October construction of the display, and the company noted that in addition to the manpower that went into the event, all Dan's stores donated $1 for every 10 pounds of apples sold through Oct. 15 to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Utah.
When the display's record was verified, Dan's put the apples on sale with hopes to set sales records as well.
