CrowleyFresh cold-storage facility off to successful first year
CrowleyFresh, Crowley Maritime Corp. and Customized Brokers’ newest cold-storage facility, opened in early 2013, and business at the Miami facility has grown substantially since it opened its doors.
“The addition of CrowleyFresh cold storage division and its new 40,000-square-foot refrigerated state-of-the-art warehouse is just minutes from the Miami International Airport,” said Charlie Dominguez, a senior sales consultant for Crowley’s liner and logistics team.
“It is completely dedicated to the importation, special handling, repackaging, transshipment and air freighting to and from major global distribution centers in Europe and the Far East,” he said.
“CrowleyFresh helps provide our customers with an unbroken cold chain from farm to shelf, assuring and certifying the quality of the produce delivered,” he added.
The new 24/7 operational facility is fully equipped with controlled-atmosphere coolers and is being kept stocked full of everything imaginable that requires refrigeration — from wine to flowers to fruits and vegetables that within short time will be placed on insulated pallets to maintain temperatures and transported to their final destinations.
CrowleyFresh, Crowley Maritime Corp. and Customized Brokers will have numerous staff members on hand at the Produce Marketing Association Foodservice Conference & Expo in Monterey, CA, July 26-28, at booth number 3749.
“We are looking for to speak to potential and existing clients about our total logistics package at the expo, which includes trucking from farms to port of exit and ocean or air transportation to U.S. ports of entry,” said Dominguez. “We will also be demonstrating our in-transit, in-house customs clearance, cold facility distribution and delivery to customers distribution centers. All services are provided 24/7 under the Crowley logistics control tower. We’re looking forward to showing them how our services fit into improving and enhancing their own businesses.”
The CrowleyFresh facility features high-tech multiple humidity- and temperature-controlled coolers including forced-air precooling. It is open around the clock to store and handle perishables imported from or exported to Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and the Far East.
The state-of-the-art facility is ideal for perishable storage or may be used as an in-transit consolidation or deconsolidation point. With 400,000 total cubic feet of refrigerated space, the facility also offers additional storage space for cargo supplies and non-refrigerated materials.
