USA Pears' 10 pear varieties were recognized in Good Housekeeping’s 2023 Best Snack Awards. Select winners can be found in the July/August issue of Good Housekeeping.

Morning Kiss Organic is welcoming imported pear season, working with partners in Argentina to provide the highest quality fruit. Import season runs March through June, and seasonal varieties that will be offered include Packham, D’Anjou, Bartlett.

Stemilt is digging for gold — if gold were a new pear packingline. Stemilt’s automated pear line is aimed to be fully operational by 2024 after breaking first grounds at Stemilt Growers in Wenatchee, WA.

Pear Bureau Northwest and Tajin seasonings have partnered to create a fun new beverage recipe featuring fresh pears and ginger muddled together, with lime, vodka (suggested: habanero or chili infused vodka for an extra kick), honey syrup and Tajin’s liquid salsas.

It’s recommended to rim the glass with your favorite Tajin dry seasoning. You can create a non-alcohol version of this cocktail by simply not including vodka.

Throughout the early part of March, United Supermarkets teamed up with Rainier Fruit to donate more than 5,000 pairs of socks across Texas through the Pears for Pairs initiative. More than 20,000 pairs of socks have been donated through this program over the last four years.

During the fall and winter months in 2022, a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of Rainier Fruit pears and apples went to purchasing brand new socks to donate to organizations that support those experiencing homelessness — “Pears for Pairs.” 

Superfresh Growers started the new year with the release of a new pear variety, Mardi Gras, which offers a sweet and juicy eating experience. The pear will be available in February 2023.

The company said Mardi Gras pears will stand out on the shelf with an elongated bottle shape and natural russet over a green background. It said the very sweet, buttery and juicy pear will melt in your mouth at peak ripeness. It is a medium-sized winter pear. The Conference pear, Europe’s favorite variety, is a parent of the Mardi Gras pear.
