With a few weeks left in the domestic melon season, Westside Produce/Classic Fruit is reflecting on another successful harvest across its California and Arizona growing regions as they prepare for their offshore operations. The company reports a strong finish for cantaloupes and honeydews, supported by steady demand and dedicated retail, foodservice and fresh-cut partners across the country.

Fyffes has sold its entire melon business to Martori, including farms in Honduras and Guatemala and the distribution business in Miami.

Martori Farms, with deep roots in Arizona and California, is well known for its signature melons: cantaloupe, watermelon, traditional honeydew, golden honeydew and the innovative Kandy Lemon Drop melon. With this acquisition, Martori Farms will offer a seamless, year-round supply of melons, strengthening its position as a leading supplier across the United States and Canada.

Summer may have ended, but there is still time for promoting cantaloupes, honeydews and watermelons. Large fall melon displays can really boost and extend produce sales while other summer items have decreased.

To kick off what western New Yorkers are already crowning a victory season, Tops Friendly Markets is teaming up with the Allen Family to bring fresh, sweet flavor — and community impact — to customers.

Beginning this season, participating Tops locations will feature Allen Family Farms cantaloupes and honeydew melons, with a portion of sales supporting the Patricia Allen Fund at Oishei Children’s Hospital. These delicious melons can be found displayed in the iconic JA17 boxes in the heart of the produce department. 

Fresh off the celebration of Melon Day on Aug. 10, the Westside Produce/Classic Fruit alliance is excited to announce the launch of the JA17 Allen Family Farms melon label, a special project they have been working on with the Allen family.

The California Cantaloupe Advisory Board has launched a new social media campaign targeting Gen Z consumers with a colorful new logo, a refreshed website, a TikTok channel and a brand ambassador — all focused on positioning cantaloupe in a fresh and fun way that appeals to a younger audience.
