The Greenhouse Competitions annual Greenhouse Vegetable Awards in Leamington, ON, took place this past weekend. Showcasing the best greenhouse-grown produce from leading North American growers, family-owned Nature Fresh Farms came back to the competition, prevailing in its yearly tradition of receiving many top accolades, including overall winner of the Hottest Tomato with its newest Umami Cherry Tomato, in addition to winning the entire Bite-Sized Tomato category with its Axiany placing third, Orange Cherry receiving second, and its Umami Cherry Tomato awarded first place.

At this year’s 14th annual Leamington Greenhouse Competition, flavor prevailed once again, as Mastronardi earned the most awards, including the most first place awards, during the two-day competition.

Spring Born, a 3.5-acre indoor hydroponic farm, is breaking ground in the CEA industry. The company is one of the first leafy green greenhouses in Colorado to undergo USDA Organic Certification. Spring Born products will be available for retail distribution starting August 2021.

Integrated Pest Management is a method that has been used with great success in reducing the need for chemicals in agriculture while working to optimize plant health.  Among Indoor farmers, especially hydroponic greenhouse growers, and more specifically high-tech Controlled Environment Agriculture, such as the type of farming Village Farms growers engage, an IPM program was developed and implemented with great success in the greenhouse industry thanks in large part to the contribution of Village Farms. 

In an effort to bring more high-flavor fresh fruits and vegetables to the region, Mastronardi Produce and Rhode Island Grows, a family-owned farming operation spanning three states, have broken ground on the construction of a 25-acre greenhouse in Exeter, RI.
