The U.S. is on track to import 300 million pounds of avocados in the four weeks leading up to this Sunday's big game, according to Avocados From Mexico. That's the highest volume ever, 20 percent above average for the period and 20 million more than initially projected.

Westfalia Fruit will present its GEM gourmet avocado at Fruit Logistica 2026, reinforcing its continued focus on premium quality, innovation and category growth in the global avocado market.

At the Westfalia Fruit stand in Hall 5.2, Stand D-21, visitors will be invited to discover the GEM experience through live tastings and dedicated displays that highlight the variety’s superior taste, texture and eating quality. Retailers interested in experiencing GEM and exploring ranging opportunities are encouraged to meet with the Westfalia Fruit team during the show.

Stars and stripes proved fruitful for Hass avocados, with Independence Day driving strong summer holiday sales and Labor Day providing additional late-seasonal support. The Hass Avocado Board’s Avocado Holiday Retail Recap reports that 53.3 million Hass avocados were sold during the Independence Day holiday week in 2025, generating $66.1 million in retail sales, an increase of 10 percent in units and 3.8 percent in dollar sales compared to the prior year. 

The California Avocado Commission's early-season crop forecast projects 330 million pounds of California avocados. This estimate includes 310 million pounds of Hass and 20 million pounds of GEM, Lamb Hass and other avocado varieties. With continual investment in new plantings and nearly 51,000 acres now producing California avocados, 2026 is expected to be the third consecutive year with volume in excess of 300 million pounds. While some harvesting already has occurred, the peak of promotable volume is expected from April into August.

The Super Bowl, which takes place on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, CA, is the single largest avocado consumption event of the year. In fact, the seven days leading up to the big game in 2025 ranked among the strongest avocado sales weeks on record, with retail volume reaching 34.5 million pounds.
