Honeybear Brands is pleased to put First Kiss apples into retailers’ hands and shoppers’ carts. First Kiss is produced in Minnesota and has quickly become a fan favorite since it was introduced in 2021.

The tradition of apple growing in Michigan is rich, as the state has 775 family-run farms, some dating back five or six generations. This makes Michigan apples available virtually year-round — and they are sold in 32 states and 18 countries. Plus, more than 12,000 retail grocery stores in the United States sell Michigan apples.

Hundreds of apple varieties are grown in Michigan. Some of the most popular varieties are Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp and Red Delicious. Additionally, there are many managed varieties grown in the state, such as EverCrisp, SweeTango, Smitten and Kiku.

The age-old saying goes “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but an apple a day can also keep the blues away.

“When you bite into an apple, there is a release of dopamine that allows you to feel pleasure,” said Kristi Harris, brand manager for Elgin, MN-based Honeybear Brands, in early June. “There are antioxidants and nutritional properties that help with mood and feeling better.”

CMI Orchards is gearing up for a new crop with a large selection of branded, core and organic apples and pears all in one place. Despite a late bloom, CMI’s Robb Myers, vice president of business development, said it was an excellent one.

With zippy flavors and an attitude to match, Rave apples will be all the rave starting in early August. Applewood Fresh, Yes! Apples and Stemilt are preparing for the upcoming apple season and encouraging retailers to do the same.

Brianna Shales, Stemilt's marketing director, said Rave’s positioning as the back-to-school apple and the brand’s partnership with Back2School America will give back to students and families in need while igniting apple sales for retailers early in the season.
