Fowler Packing acquires 10,000 acres, expanding Peelz citrus program
Fowler Packing Co., a family-owned and operated farming operation in Fresno, CA, acquired, in partnership with Ag Partners Capital, SunWest Fruit Co., a citrus and tree fruit operator in Parlier, CA.
As a result of the acquisition, Fowler Packing will add to its holdings over 10,000 acres of premier farmland in coveted water districts. The acquisition represents one of the most significant agricultural transactions in California.
Throughout its 72 year history, Fowler Packing has maintained consistent and thoughtful growth, becoming one of the largest farming companies in the state. The acquisition of Sunwest is part of a long-term strategic plan to further strengthen the company’s position in the citrus category and California agriculture — increasing total mandarin volume, expanding citrus offerings and enhancing packing capacity. The acquisition is not only about growing fruit and expanding acreage, but creating opportunities for current and future employees within our community.
“Given the significant headwinds facing California agriculture, we are constantly evaluating how we can better support our retail partners, consumers, and employees,” said Justin Parnagian, CEO. “This is the largest acquisition in Fowler Packing’s history and represents a historic moment for our family-owned company.”
Since its launch in 2019, Fowler Packing’s Peelz brand has experienced explosive growth, becoming the fastest growing mandarin brand in the nation. Peelz has continued to significantly grow its market share, increasing sales in the last year by over 60 percent and are sold in more than 12,000 stores throughout North America.
“As we continue to grow, we remain committed to the values that have gotten us to where we are today," said Parnagian. “We strive to have the best quality product, be a strategic partner, and preferred employer while farming responsibly and sustainably.”
