Church Bros. hires Alejandro Tomas-Callejas
Salinas, CA-based Church Bros., a grower-processor-shipper of more than 500 fresh vegetable SKUs, announced the hire of Alejandro Tomas-Callejas.
In his new role as research and development manager, Tomas-Callejas will report to Kori Tuggle, vice president of marketing. His responsibilities will include driving product innovation and process development.
Prior to joining Church Bros., Tomas-Callejas was a principal research scientist at Chiquita/Fresh Express, where he provided technical leadership in pre- and post-harvest R&D projects, as well as product development.

“Alejandro is a great addition to our team with his scientific background and expertise in post-harvest technology at the production level from field to processing plant, as well as his experience in product development,” Tuggle said in a company press release. “He will support the Church Bros. team with our long-term goals for continued growth.”
Tomas-Callejas received a bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural engineering and a doctorate in food science from Technical University of Cartagena (Spain). He completed his Ph.D. research at University of California-Davis. Upon graduation, he joined the UC-Davis Department of Plant Sciences as post-doctoral researcher where he worked in several projects related to postharvest quality and safety of fresh-cut vegetables. His research work has been published in numerous scientific journals.
