Christopher Ranch family grows with addition of founder's grandson to staff
The family-owned-and-operated aspect of Christopher Ranch LLC in Gilroy, CA, is growing. Jason Christopher, grandson of Christopher Ranch founder and co-owner Don Christopher, and nephew of managing co-owner Bill Christopher, has left the glitz of Hollywood to join the family business, according to a company press release.
Jason Christopher graduated from Chapman University in 2006 with a degree in film and worked in several television commercials and independent productions following his graduation. He also worked for DreamWorks Animation and Sony Imageworks, but the chance to come back to the community he grew up in, and the opportunity to work with his family, kept calling to him. Mr. Christopher and his wife, Sylvia, who grew up in Kansas, both value the ideals of an agriculture lifestyle, the release said.
Mr. Christopher is starting out in the post-harvest technology division of the company, learning about refrigeration and controlled atmosphere storage, one of the most important areas for Christopher Ranch. "Garlic is harvested only once a year in the summer months, so CA storage is essential for holding garlic throughout the year, making it possible for us to supply our customers with fresh garlic year round," Mr. Christopher said in the release.
Jason Christopher joins his cousin, Ken Christopher (Bill Christopher's son), as part of the active family members working at the ranch. Christopher Ranch has been in operation since 1956, and is a leading grower, packer and shipper of fresh California Garlic in the United States, the release said.
