Calixtro looks forward to productive spring
RIO RICO, AZ — The calendar year in the Nogales deal had a rough start. But in February, Frank Calixtro, a salesman at Calixtro Distributing Co., Inc., said he looked forward to “hopefully more stable volume and good quality.”
Calixtro said his company “moves everything in Nogales.” This, of course, is a very wide range of Mexican produce.
“January started with very slow volumes and then the volumes bunched up, as we expected. But it was too much at one time,” Calixtro indicated. The market was fouled because of erratic weather in Mexico and blizzards in the wintertime markets.
A second generation Calixtro has joined the firm. Corey Calixtro, the son of Charlie Calixtro, is working as a sales assistant and conducting field inspections for the family business. Corey Calixtro recently graduated from the University of Arizona in agriculture and business economics.
