CAC continues 'Build a Better Burger' contest
As the barbecues heat up for the summer grilling season, the California Avocado Commission is once again participating as an official sponsor of the Sutter Home Build a Better Burger national recipe contest and cookoff.
This is the fourth year CAC will sponsor and support this popular recipe contest, which presents the ideal setting and opportune timing to increase consumer demand for fresh California avocados in summer grilling activities.
On the menu for CAC's marketing activities in support of its sponsorship are consumer radio, on-line banner advertising, in-store display materials and coverage in monthly recipe e-mails to consumers.
Last year's cookoff competition coverage is featured in the "The Food Network Challenge" series, which debuted over Memorial Day weekend and is scheduled to air throughout the summer. The program illustrates the level of culinary creativity inspired by the contest including new usage ideas for California avocados.
"This cooperative marketing program allows us to take fresh California avocado usage beyond guacamole as evidenced by the avocado mint sauce used to dress a finalist's honey chipotle burger," Jan DeLyser, vice president of marketing for the commission, said in a press release. "We are always looking for new, non-traditional ways to bring our 'versatility' message to consumers during the peak California avocado season and inspire new usage ideas for the home cook."
Promotional displays and point-of-sale material prominently feature the California avocado logo and will be included in all Sutter Home print advertising and promotional campaigns as well as a recipe booklet that includes a California avocado recipe with photograph, and a savings booklet with a cents-off coupon.
The commission has updated its micro site (www.avocado.org/bbb) designed to provide consumers information and support the program.
In addition to the micro site, consumers can learn more about the Sutter Home Winery created recipe contest at www.buildabetterburger.com.
