Boston area customers hit by ice storm
An ice storm that struck New England Dec. 11-12 hit the distant suburbs of the city.
Camilo Pe?alosa, vice president of Infinite Herbs in Everett, MA, said Dec. 15 that the iciest and most treacherous part of the storm was generally limited to the Interstate 495 ring around the northern and western suburbs of Boston.
Steve Piazza, president of Community-Suffolk Inc. on the Boston Market Terminal in Everett, said Dec. 16 that the markets in Everett and Chelsea functioned without much disruption. But he said that the markets were "distinctly hurt" because many customers were closed.
"I would say the small or medium-sized wholesalers in a range of 10 to 30 miles north and west were shut down three or four days, and restaurants -- we could feel it in our customers, or a lack thereof," some of whom were still shut down on Dec. 16, Mr. Piazza said. "Some areas still have no power. By the end of the week, everyone should be up and running."
