Blueberries running steadily for Southern Specialties
Southern Specialties, headquartered in Pompano Beach, FL, is moving blueberries steadily this season. Geno Valdes, vice president of sales and marketing for the company, said that the Florida movement marks the start of the domestic season.
“The Florida movement will continue as we transition to North Carolina over the next month,” Valdes said on March 25. “We’re staying predominantly with six-ounce clamshells until the end of April. Then we expect to move into pints. We’ll continue to ship the six-ounce clamshells under the ‘Southern Selects’ label through March and into early April, and then we will transition into North Carolina.”
Also under the “Southern Selects” label, Southern Specialties was geared to have promotable volumes of blackberries in late March. Valdes said this program will run through the month of April and into May.
“We will then transition to our Guatemala program, which continues throughout the summer,” he said.
Southern Specialties also has consistent volumes of raspberries. The program will draw to a close around the end of May.
“We grow and ship the Adelita variety of premium raspberries,” said Valdes. “We expect volumes to stay consistent until the end of the season.”
