“A lot of it comes down to cultural practices. We’ve proven over time that the little things, timely size picking, pruning, canopy management, out in the field add up and make a huge difference in production,” Blanchard said. “Our agronomist continues to help Index Fresh growers achieve consistent yields, year after year, which in turn lets consumers know that the California season will deliver for them.”
Consumers select California avocados because of their superior quality and flavor highlighted by the fact that they are sustainably grown in the United States, environmentally and socially. Index Fresh anticipates having promotable volumes of fresh California avocados available for market by mid-March. Trees still happy from winter rains can then put their energy into sizing up the fruit, which will be strategically harvested through late spring and into summer, meaning premium California avocados will be fresh and ready for Cinco de Mayo and the much-anticipated backyard barbecue season.
