There is a steady amount of table grapes coming out of Chile and Peru. The quality, size and flavor are outstanding. The market is very favorable to run promotions for the next several weeks.

Chile and Peru are currently supplying high-quality, large table grapes suited for U.S. supermarkets. Peru's peak lasts through March, while Chile's continues into early May.

Both countries do an excellent job growing some of the finest grapes during their seasons. They produce premium-quality large-sized grapes that easily fit the standards of retail produce departments.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has imposed sanctions on two produce businesses for failing to meet contractual obligations to the sellers of produce they purchased and for failing to pay reparation awards issued under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. These sanctions include suspending the businesses’ PACA licenses and barring the principal operators from engaging in PACA-licensed business or other activities without USDA approval.

Smallhold Inc., operating out of Brooklyn, NY, has posted a $50,000 surety bond with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The company was required to post the bond under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act following its involvement in a bankruptcy. The company posted the bond as a prerequisite for obtaining a new license to operate in the produce industry.
