The cliché about not fixing what isn’t broken applies well to Andrews Bros. Inc. located at the Detroit Produce Terminal Market. But that includes keeping business running smoothly by staying on top of your game at all times and fine tuning wherever possible.
“We apply the same basic principles to our business that our forefathers, three generations before me, did in their time,” said Jeff Abrash, president, owner and fourth generation family member of the company, which was founded over 100 years ago. “We’re on our game 24/7, taking care of both ends — our suppliers and our customers,” he added.
The company remains highly optimistic today especially because of the availability of products from around the world. Andrews Bros. sources the best possible produce and passes it on to its customers at a fair price seven days a week.
“This is our founding principle,” Abrash pointed out. “And it’s why we enjoy — and protect — our highly regarded reputation. Our entire team works hard for both our customers and our suppliers. “This is tangible to us,” he continued. “When we leave here at the end of the day our entire staff leaves knowing that we have served customers and suppliers as well as they can be served.”
Andrews Bros. is a full-line supplier of fruits and vegetables. Its customer network includes independent and chain retailers, wholesalers and foodservice operators. Abrash said the one common denominator is that all customers specialize in selling high-quality perishable foods.
Abrash said he speaks for every business at the terminal market when he says that there is an unsurpassed cooperative spirit that exists between merchants and retailers in Detroit and surrounding areas. And he sees the city of Detroit overcoming its challenges of past years, noting, “We see good things happening in the overall Detroit area. Positive changes inside are progressing. I feel strongly confident about Detroit’s future.”
The majority of Andrews Bros.’ customers are in Southeast Michigan, but the company also reaches into Ohio and Canada. “We’re a very stable company with a loyal and energetic team that has been with us for many years,” said Abrash. “Our company philosophy is to come to work every day and work in unity to do the best possible job for our suppliers and our customers.”
