North Carolina Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler named Peter Thornton as the new director of the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Marketing Division. Thornton replaces Joe Sanderson, who retired in March after 34 years with the department.

With 2022 on the not-so-far horizon, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services is strategizing for the year ahead by constantly seeking more markets both domestically and internationally for state growers to do business.

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services is charged with promoting potatoes grown in the state, throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Kevin Hardison, marketing manager for the department, noted there are several roles it plays as marketing specialist.
