With the summer months upon us, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture has turned its attention to peaches, actively participating in meetings with the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council and assisting in making connections with growers, packers, distributors, retailers and businesses that use peaches as a value-added product.

The New Jersey Peach Promotion Council runs its own unique marketing campaign to promote peach purchases and consumption to wholesalers and consumers using digital billboards, press releases, industry advertisements and social media advertising on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

New Jersey peach and nectarine growers are expecting unusually high demand for their fruit this season after weather affected other growing regions. The New Jersey Department of Agriculture is poised to help growers and retailers get the word out that Jersey Fresh peaches are in-season.

While New Jersey is called The Garden State, few people across the country and even those who live in the state, would think that it is the home to a thriving agricultural community.

Even though New Jersey is most often thought of as an urban or suburban region, sandwiched between New York City and Philadelphia, two of the nation’s top five largest metropolitan areas, the state produces more than 100 different varieties of  produce products, from asparagus and eggplant to sweet corn and, of course, Jersey tomatoes.

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture leverages agency and FDA funding to promote farm food safety principles and good agricultural practices through implementation of focused education and outreach programs. The NJDA also maintains inspection programs to ensure that USDA, FDA and Jersey Fresh standards are met or exceeded.
