The Port of Wilmington, Delaware, which was founded in 1923, acts as a full-service deepwater port and marine terminal handling approximately 400 vessels annually with a yearly import/export cargo tonnage of more than 6 million tons.  

Located at the confluence of the Delaware and Christina Rivers, 65 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, the port is the busiest terminal on the Delaware River, producing $436 million in business revenue for the state and the region. It’s also responsible for nearly 6,000 jobs and generates $41 million in annual taxes.

GT USA Wilmington has recently received its first ever shipment of summer fruit into the Port of Wilmington, Delaware from the West Coast of South America. The citrus fruits were delivered from Valparaiso, Chile to the Port by Capt. D. A. Dela Rosa, the Master of the M/V EVEREST BAY, a refrigerated cargo ship.

Holt Logistics has seen a significant uptick in business coming through the different facilities on the Delaware River, and a big reason is due to the excellent customer service and operational efficiency it offers its clients.

Eric Holt, chief commercial officer at Holt Logistics, said the Port of Philadelphia is having a good, robust year so far in terms of volumes from seasonal trades.

Eastern Propak, a cold-storage warehouse in Glassboro, NJ, with repacking and bagging capabilities, offers 9,000 pallet positions, 170,000 square feet of storage and 27 loading doors. The company is only minutes away from the major Delaware ports, providing easy access to all major hubs on the East Coast.

“The Delaware River port is where we get 80 percent or more of the imports that come to this facility, said Rob Kearney, the company’s CEO.

The Diamond State Port Corp. is the state-owned authority that operates the Port of Wilmington, which is situated where the Delaware and Christina Rivers meet, about 60 miles from the Atlantic Ocean on the East Coast.

The port annually produces $436 million in business revenue; and $409 million in personal income for the state and the region. It’s responsible for 5,900 jobs and generates $41 million in annual taxes.
