The California Fresh Fruit Association recently held its 87th Annual Meeting at the Lodge at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, CA. The event, which included industry and committee updates, featured the election of the board of directors and chairman. The board of directors is made up of 32 individuals from operations located across California.

Among the attendees were retailers from Albertsons, Grocery Outlet, Gaju Markets, Ralphs, Smart & Final and Stater Bros. Markets.

The California Avocado Commission anticipates its fiscal year 2022-23 harvest will come in at 257 million pounds of avocados, a slight decrease compared to the 2021-22 season crop volume of 276 million pounds. When announcing the crop outlook, CAC also unveiled its marketing plans for 2023.“The recent California rainfall has been welcomed by our growers throughout all districts,” said Jeff Oberman, president of CAC.

From Ventura County in Southern California, north through San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties, to Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, the onslaught of rain, wind and floods is approaching $200 million in potential damages to California’s strawberry farms.

While the majority of family farmers are currently cleaning up minor storm damage, some farms have experienced catastrophic conditions. Erosion has washed away an estimated 350 acres.

In the latest move to strengthen the global marketing focus of the California Table Grape Commission, Maria Montalvo has been promoted to senior marketing director.

The California Avocado Commission team is in final preparation mode for the much-anticipated International Fresh Produce Association’s Global Produce & Floral Show that will be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. The show will take place Oct. 26-29, and commission representatives will be available throughout the event and in booth No. 2343 on the expo days.
