As the first-ever nonprofit recipient of the annual SUNSETRocks event during the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit, Brighter Bites announced today it has raised over $130,000 from nine generous industry sponsors. Mastronardi Produce (SUNSET®) and Enza Zaden are the lead sponsors committing funds, as well as additional matching funds for contributions raised throughout the virtual event.

At the Produce Marketing Association, we have always championed the joy of fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers, but never more so than over the last seven months. As our members know, we expanded our Joy of Fresh platform in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support farmers, growers, and every level of the supply chain during this unprecedented economic downturn. 

In a year full of unexpected changes in how we do business with each other and with consumers, one of the themes I will discuss during this year’s State of the Industry at Fresh Summit will be where our greatest opportunities as a global community of fresh produce and floral marketers can be found.

For example, we have witnessed an incredible boom in grocery e-commerce growth. Retailers that invested in their e-commerce experience are reaping the benefits of consumers driven by convenience and safety concerns.

These are challenging times and reports reveal that consumers tend to be attracted to the tried and true, especially when it comes to the food they eat.
